What changes on 1 July 2026?

Starting 1 July 2026, the EU charges a €3 customs duty on every parcel worth under €150 that ships from outside the EU — including Temu, Shein and AliExpress. Until now these low-value parcels were exempt. The fee is charged per item type in the parcel, not per parcel.

Is the €3 per parcel or per item?

Accepted Answer

Per item TYPE, based on tariff classification. A parcel with a phone, a charger and earphones counts as 3 types = €9. Three identical t-shirts count as 1 type = €3. Our calculator multiplies €3 by the number of distinct item types you add.

Do I also pay VAT on top of this?

Accepted Answer

No — and our calculator never adds it. Platforms like Temu, Shein and AliExpress already collect EU VAT at checkout through the IOSS system (since 2021). The new €3 fee is separate and on top of what you already pay; we only count the new customs duty so you don't double-count.

What if my order is €150 or more?

Accepted Answer

Orders of €150 or more fall under the normal customs regime, with duty rates that depend on the product category (for example electronics ~0%, clothing ~12%, footwear ~17%). This calculator is built for the under-€150 case and shows a notice as soon as your order crosses €150.

Question 5

Does this apply to items shipped from an EU warehouse?

Accepted Answer

No. The fee targets parcels entering the EU from non-EU sellers. If your item ships from a warehouse already inside the EU, it isn't subject to this new €3-per-type duty. Always check where your order actually ships from before you buy.

Is anything else changing after this?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The €3 fee is a temporary measure until the EU's full customs reform (expected around 2028). A separate handling fee is announced for November 2026. Leave your email and we'll tell you the moment charging starts and when the November fee lands.

Question 7

I ordered in June but it arrives after July 1 — do I pay the fee?

Accepted Answer

Possibly, yes. The duty is assessed when your parcel clears EU customs, not when you pay at checkout. Parcels clearing customs on or after 1 July 2026 are in scope even if you ordered earlier. Whether and how you're actually charged depends on the platform and the carrier handling your delivery.
